Post Traumatic Stress Disorder

Post Traumatic Stress Disorder
is an emotional response to a traumatic event above what humans usually experience.
It shows up as "flash backs" (reliving the event), which may cause us to withdraw from others. We may also become hyper-vigilant and have an exaggerated startle response.
Physiological changes can determine how we respond emotionally.
Recent research supports the theory that "The body keeps the score" as described in the book by Bessel van der Kolk.
